The LENA Project current projects
The LENA Project serves as a host and collaborator for many types of environmental projects and causes in the Iowa City community. We partner with individuals, organizations, schools, and businesses to create a grass-roots effort. Our framework is centered on working bit by bit, little by little to create a better world—one project at a time. If we all do a little, we’ll make big changes.
Our motto is “One project at a time,” however we often find ourselves working on several projects at once! Consider doing a small part and joining one (or more!) of our current projects.

Promise to the Planet
Imagine a world in which every citizen made a promise to take one action to better our planet. Imagine 8 billion acts every single day–2,920,000,000,000 acts every year.
Would the world change? How could it not?
We are joining efforts with The University of Iowa Office of Sustainability and the Environment to challenge people to take the next step and make a Promise to the Planet. We are asking you to join the collective effort. Think of an action and imagine how you can practice that action in your daily life and community. Make a Promise to the Planet and join others in making our planet a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable place for all to live.
IC Toy Redistribution Project
The IC Toy Redistribution Project was began in 2020. We aim to redistribute high-quality used toys in our community, keeping them out of the landfill and normalizing second-hand gifts. We collect approximately 1000 toys each year and provide a safe way for families to claim them for free.
The IC Toy Redistribution Project is presented in collaboration with social justice advocate Anne Ventullo, Antelope Lending Library, and Velvet Lotus Tattoo. This year we are partnering with CommUnity.
